Christmas Eve will be characterized by unseasonably warm weather and rain, according to forecasts from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LVĢMC).

December 24 will be cloudy. Light precipitation is expected in places, some heavier rain is possible, while in the east of the country there may be sleet and snow. A slow westerly wind will blow, and mist will linger in places. The maximum air temperature will be within the range 1 to 5 degrees Celsius.

In the capital, the sky will still be cloudy, with light rain and drizzle. The wind will blow slowly from the west, and the air temperature will remain similar to the night, not warming up more than 3 degrees Celsius.

Into Christmas Day, the sky will continue to be cloudy, only in places it will clear and a ray of occasional sunshine may be glimpsed. Precipitation is expected in places.

Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, the snow cover in the east will increase by 1-4 centimeters. Icing will form on the roads in certain sections, so all road users are urged to be careful. A slow wind will blow, which will turn from the south during the day on Wednesday and gain strength slightly, with gusts reaching up to 15 meters per second on the coast.

The air temperature in most of the country’s territory will be positive throughout the day, so Christmas will not be white this year, except perhaps in in the east of the country, where the thermometer will occasionally drop below the 0 degree mark, and the snow may linger a while.
