On 9 April, a 24-hour speed control marathon will take place in all the Member States.

Juris Jančevskis, Head of the State Police Response Department, told Latvian Television’s “Morning Panorama” programme that the main objective of the campaign is to prevent speeding offences. In recent years, the number of such offences has been increasing.

“We would encourage observing speed limits not only this week and today, but also outside the campaign, because speeding is one of the causes of serious road accidents,” Jančevskis said.

The campaign is now in its 12th year.
