At the suggestion of the Ministry of Transport, Rail Baltica’s project implementer in Latvia Eiropas dzelzceļa līnijas (EDzL) will conduct an internal review of the work of the procurement committee and assess the possibility of terminating the rental contract for expensive cars, the company said in a press release Friday.
The company’s press release said that EDzL had provided an explanation to the Transport Ministry in relation to the recent procurement of full-service rental cars.
Baiba Zauere, Member of the Board of EDzL, pointed out that the procurement amount fully complies with the cost threshold for a representative car set by Latvian legislation.
At the same time, she explained that the technical equipment of the car envisaged in the procurement corresponds to the equipment of a modern new car. The vehicles would also be used for inspecting construction sites outside the city and would be used by the responsible departmental staff as well as by the management when necessary.
However, in view of the public interpretations on the usefulness of the procurement and the fact that only one tenderer submitted a tender, EDzL will, at the suggestion of the Ministry, carry out an internal review of the work of the Procurement Committee and the requirements of the specifications.
In addition, the possibility of terminating the contract and re-procurement will be considered to ensure maximum transparency and credibility of the procurement process, the company said.
