From April 5 to April 26, public voting for the Latvian Literary Award 2023 (LALIGABA) is taking place on LSM’s Latvian-language portal, allowing readers to express their literary preferences in various different cateogries.
You can vote for your favorites as much as once every day (if you are of a particularly obsessive, enthusiastic or indecisive nature) by logging in with your e-mail or social network account.
The nominees for the Latvian Literature of the Year Award in seven categories – the best work of poetry, the best work of prose, the best prose translation of foreign literature into Latvian, the best translation of foreign poetry into Latvian, the best work of original literature by a Latvian author for children, the brightest debut in literature and the brightest work in literary studies.
This year, for the first time, translations of prose and poetry are evaluated separately.
In addition, the expert committee presiding has decided to award the lifetime award for significant contribution to Latvian literature to translator Elga Sakse.
LALIGABA’s award ceremony will take place on April 28 in the renovated Riga Circus building. The event will be shown live on the LSM portal, and repeated on April 29 at 21:10 on LTV1.
