Midweek mix: Liepāja 400 celebration concert

This year Latvia’s third-largest city, Liepāja, celebrates its 400th birthday.

To mark the occasion Latvian Television broadcast a large concert on April 20 featuring many of the country’s most popular performers under the title “Personal Code: Liepāja”.

The program included the song cycle “Lake and Sea” created by composer Uldis Marhilevičs and poet/musician Guntars Račs in honour of Liepāja’s 400th anniversary, the Liepāja Music Golden Fund with songs by composer Imants Kalniņš and the group “Līvi”, as well as special arrangements by composer Jānis Strazds.

The concert performances included actors Agnese Jēkabsone and Mārtiņš Vilsons, the band “Carnival Youth”, musicians Uldis Marhilevičs, Ivo Fomins, Aija Andrejeva, Shipsea, Ance Krauze, Andris Ērglis, Igo, Laura Bulava, SourJ, Ainars Virga, Jānis Strazds, Roberts Dinters and many others.
