President Gitanas Nausėda and Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė have congratulated the leader of the United Kingdom’s Labour Party Keir Starmer on his victory in the general elections, saying they look forward to further support for Ukraine and close bilateral cooperation.

“Congratulations Keir Starmer on your electoral victory. I look forward to working together on strengthening transatlantic security, supporting Ukraine and further enhancing bilateral ties. Best of luck in serving the people of the United Kingdom!” Nausėda posted on the social network X.

“Congratulations, Keir Starmer, with the UK general election victory. Looking forward to further strengthening bonds of friendship and close cooperation between our countries, as we continue to stand together for our shared democratic values, rules-based international order and to help Ukraine achieve victory,” the Lithuanian prime minister said on the same social network.

Labour won the UK general elections on Friday morning, crossing the 326-seat threshold for a majority in the House of Commons. Labour leader Starmer will become the new prime minister, ending 14 years of Conservative rule.
