Latvian volunteers and Ukrainian war refugees have joined their voices in one choir. After extensive rehearsing, the choir is ready to delight audiences with its first concert on Tuesday, December 10.
The Ukrainian donation hangar in Rīga, Ventspils Street 50, is always busy. Even when the doors are locked, a different kind of buzz begins – Latvians and Ukrainians, volunteers and staff of the association “Your Friends/Tavi draugi” come to rehearse under the leadership of young conductor Emīlija Marta Paidere.
But the war is present even in the choir room – rehearsals take place between the protective nets of the trenches. Now they are made in snow.
“It’s also a chance to see that nothing is over and that Ukraine must help,” says Emilia Marta Paidere, the choir’s artistic director.
The choir will give its first concert on December 10, 19:00 at St Peter’s Church in Riga. All proceeds will be used to buy presents for each of the 260 war children who have written their wish list for the Christmas Express.
If you would like to join in, the choristers of “Tavi draugi” invite everyone who can and wants to sing.
