Christmas tree prices this year have remained at the same level as last year, according to the traders surveyed by the LETA news agency on December 10.

Traders also said that demand for Christmas trees has increased and people are buying them earlier this year than last year.

Representatives of Egļu serviss Ltd noted that the most frequently purchased trees are Nordmann cut spruces, ranging in size from 1.75 to 2.25 meters, and potted spruces up to 1.5 meters in height.

Representatives of “e-glītes.lv” indicated that households most often choose trees between 1.5 and 2 meters, while legal entities choose larger spruces between 2.5 and 3 meters for outdoor or hall display.

Jānis Skroderis, the owner of Egļu piegāde Ltd, reported that potted spruce trees are becoming more popular, especially 1.2 and 1.4-meter spruces. However,  Currently, it is mainly companies that are buying cut spruce, Skroderis noted, adding that more interest from private individuals is expected closer to Christmas.

This year, the prices of “Egļu piegāde” have increased slightly, which Skroderis attributes to the overall increase in the cost of growing and operating spruce trees.

Sanda Cikanoviča, Sales Manager at Meža dārza serviss SIA, explained that prices for spruce trees longer than three meters have increased due to higher transport, labor and procurement costs. At the same time, she noted that prices have remained stable for spruces up to three meters.

Cikanoviča pointed out that Nordmann is the company’s most sought-after variety and that buyers are purchasing trees of two meters or slightly shorter.

In parallel, she noted that there has been an increase in the popularity of 1.2 and 1.4 meter Nordmann and potted silver firs.

Jana Kaverska-Puzāne, Head of the Kalsnava Nursery of JSC “Latvijas valsts meži”, said that this year, compared to last year, the demand for potted trees has almost doubled, which is due to the company’s offer and discounts on trees.

She also noted that the biggest demand this year is for Serbian fir varieties such as Nana and Zuckerhut, as well as Fraser firs. LVM mainly offers spruce seedlings up to one and a half meters in length.
