The U.S. Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the films that have made it to the 97th Academy Awards, or “Oscars,” “shortlist” in 10 categories. Among the 15 films that will compete for the honor of best international film on the shortlist, is Latvian director Gints Zilbaložs’ animated film “Flow” (Straume).
It is the first Latvian film to make it this far in the competition for best foreign language film at the Oscars.
“Flow” is also still in the running for the Best Animated Feature Film award – there is no shortlist in this category and five nominees will be chosen from all the works that have qualified, further shortening the odds on it winning an award.
