April 7 brings the end of a week which has seen choirs from 12 countries gathering in Riga for the third International Choir Competition “Rīga dzied” (“Rīga sings”) and the main trophy award – the Imants Kokars Choir Award, named after the legendary Latvian choral conductor, reports Lavian Television.
The international competition fulfills the dream of Imants Kokars to establish an international choir competition that takes place in a joyful atmosphere, revealing excellent artistic results. The artistic director of the competition, Romāns Vanags, said that the artistic level of the choirs this year is very high.
