On Monday, December 16, Latvian Minister of Defence Andris Sprūds is meeting with Canadian Minister of Defence Bill Blair , who is visiting Latvia on a working visit.
The defense ministers of both countries will discuss regional security issues, the strengthening of the Canadian-led NATO multinational brigade in Latvia, as well as support for Ukraine.
As part of his visit, Blair will visit the Ādaži military base to meet with Canadian soldiers. Latvia has developed close relations with Canada, which is the lead country of the NATO multinational brigade deployed in Latvia. The allied brigade brings together soldiers from Albania, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Italy, Iceland, Canada, Montenegro, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and North Macedonia. Early next year, the Swedish Armed Forces mechanized infantry battalion will also join the brigade.
Canada is also a member of the international drone coalition in support of Ukraine and is involved in training Ukrainian soldiers.
