On the 35th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the National Film Centre (NkC) will for the 21st time organise the traditional Latvian Film Marathon on 4 May, also this year in two parallel free formats – in person at the cinema “Splendid Palace” and worldwide online , representatives of the NKC said.
This year, a world-famous phenomenon – Latvian animation – will be a thread running through both formats of the marathon.
The portal filmas.lv will look back to 1990, when the Declaration of Independence was adopted, while the cinema “Splendid Palace” will also present premieres and anniversaries, films about Latvian cultural personalities, patriotic sentiments and artistic challenges.
The most extensive section of the 4 May Latvian Film Marathon is the screenings at Splendid Palace – eight screenings in two cinemas and an open-air screening at the end of the evening.
The programme on NKC’s portal filmas.lv will consist of two thematic blocks – Latvian animation (about cats!) in different years and Latvian history in newsreels in 1990, at the time of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. Detailed information on the programme will follow soon.
The Latvian Film Marathon on 4 May is organised by the National Film Centre, supported by the Riga City Municipality, the LNA State Archive of Cinematographic Documents and Latvian film studios.
