From 24 April to 6 July, the Riga Photography Biennial “Next 2025” will present a wide range of exhibitions, giving the floor to young artists and curators from the Baltic and other countries who have focused on aspects of the theme “invisible but present”, the organisers of the Biennial announced.
The Riga Photography Biennial (RPB) started in 2015, and the Next 2025 programme will take place on its 10th anniversary. The RPB’s interannual programme title “Next” encapsulates the idea of movement, the organisers say: “Next is a transition that is never certain, predictable or known in advance, constantly asking, with its immediate and irreversible presence: does the next have any relation to the former?” Next provides a platform for up-and-coming artists and curators who offer an original, contemporary perspective and whose work encourages an exploration of the power of the image, according to the programme.
This year, the central events of the programme are the “Seeking the Latest in Photography!” and “Emerging Curator!” exhibitions.
Along with exhibitions, the Biennial will also stretch into the urban environment. The Next 2025 exhibitions will be complemented by an educational programme, with lectures, discussions and workshops further exploring the themes of the exhibitions and the role of the image in today’s world.
