On 10 April, the closing ceremony of the 29th Riga International Short Film Festival “2Annas” awarded prizes to the most outstanding short films of the year.
The Grand Prix and the Golden Anna were awarded to “Vox Humana” by Filipino director Don Josephus Raphael Eblahan, while the best Baltic short film was Ildze Felsberga’s documentary “Bad Animals/Sliktie dzīvnieki”.
This year, the competition section of the festival screened more than 100 films from 30 countries, with entries judged in four categories – International Short Film Competition, Baltic Short Film Competition, Mid-Length Film Competition and Children and Youth Competition. Prizes were also awarded for Best Animation, Best Documentary and Best Experimental Film.
“2Annas has always been a place for freedom, but for that to be possible, there needs to be mutual trust. This year, watching the winning films, you can see fragile, existential and also witty stories that ask what it means to be human and alive, what it means to exist in a world where complex patriarchal systems also prevail,” says Laima Graždanoviča, Programme Director of the Riga International Short Film Festival “2Annas”.
