Foreign trade was fairly flat in February

Provisional data published by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) April 9 show that in February 2025 the foreign trade turnover of Latvia amounted to EUR 3.31 billion, which at current prices was 1.2 % more than a year ago.

The export value of goods was 0.1 % higher, but the import value of goods was 2.2 % higher.

In February Latvia exported goods worth EUR 1.58 billion, but imported EUR 1.73 billions’ worth.

As a result, compared to February 2024, the foreign trade balance worsened as exports in the total volume of foreign trade decreased from 48.3 % to 47.8 %.

During the first two months of this year foreign trade turnover at current prices reached EUR 6.83 billion – EUR 274.7 million or 4.2 % more than in the corresponding period of 2024. Exports constituted EUR 3.22 billion (a drop of EUR 33.8 million or 1 %), whereas imports comprised EUR 3.61 billion (a rise of EUR 308.4 million or 9.3 %).

Notably, in February 2025, compared to February 2024,    exports to the USA   reduced by 33.2 % and comprised EUR 32.4 million. The decrease was mainly affected by the drop in exports of wood and articles of wood, the CSB said.    Imports from the USA   fell by 0.8 % and comprised EUR 18.4 million and was mostly affected by a drop in imports of vehicles and associated transport equipment and machinery.

In February 2025 the foreign trade balance of Latvia was positive with 115 countries and was negative in trade with 41 countries. In February 2025, compared to February 2024, share of European Union countries in total exports value increased by 2 percentage points to 71.3%, and in total imports the value inceased by 3.3 percentage points to 85.5%.
