A bill that would have allowed civil unions for same-sex couples in Lithuania failed to clear its first parliamentary hurdle on Tuesday. On October 29 the Saeima rejected the initiative of more than 10,000 Latvian residents regarding the registration of same-sex partnerships. 55 deputies voted to reject the initiative, 30 voted in favor of it, while one Member abstained.
