Sunday brings 643 new COVID-19 cases in Latvia

Latvia on December 20 recorded 643 cases of COVID-19, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC), the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic rising to 30,940 on Sunday.

The highest daily total remains 1,040 cases recorded on December 17.

Of 5,545 tests carried out in the previous 24 hours, 11.6% were positive, up on the 8.7% figure of Saturday.

Unfortunately, twelve more deaths were also confirmed Sunday. Two victims were aged 50-55, three were aged 70-80, four were aged 80-90, and three were aged 90-95.

So far 439 people have died from the coronavirus in Latvia since the start of the pandemic.

All three Baltic states continue to battle the virus. On December 20,  Estonia reported      579 new cases of coronavirus and four deaths, while       Lithuania remains particularly hard-hit   with 2,927 new cases and 14 deaths confirmed Sunday.

All arrivals (including returnees) need to fill in an electronic declaration prior to coming to Latvia. It is available at the website  covidpass.lv  .
