Spain youngsters impress in Lithuania rout

Spain’s youngsters put on a stunning display as they dispatched Lithuania 4-0 at the Estadio Municipal Butarque on Tuesday night.

With the entire senior squad in isolation following Sergio Busquet’s positive COVID-19 test, the side led by Luis de la Fuente certainly made up for their absence with two goals in either half to cap off a wonderful performance.

Spain’s pressure from kick off was rewarded after just three minutes, as Manu Garcia’s short corner saw the ball break loose on the edge of the area, where Guillamon was on hand to lash a fierce drive into the bottom corner.

The home side’s advantage was doubled just over twenty minutes later, as an incisive pass from Gonzalo Villar through the Lithuania defensive line found Brahim Diaz, who unleashed an unstoppable effort into the far corner.

Spain looked set to add to the scoreline on the half-hour mark after Bryan Gil was fouled in the penalty area, but Abel Ruiz’s tame effort from the spot was easily saved by Markas Beneta, with the score remaining at 2-0 at the interval.

Luis de la Fuente introduced Alejandro Pozo and Juan Miranda at half time and the latter put his side 3-0 up eight minutes after the restart, with a free kick that took a slight touch off the wall as it curled home.

With just over a quarter of an hour remaining, the score was 4-0, as Javier Puado lashed home a powerful drive to cap off a memorable night for the young side.
