Salacgrīva’s temporary bridge causes headache yet again

On Monday, 14 April, the Salacgrīva temporary bridge, which has recently caused many a headache for locals, got deformed and closed for a while. The cause was most likely temperature fluctuations, Latvian State Roads (LVC) said.

The inspection of the bridge did not reveal any defects in the load-bearing structures. Traffic over the temporary bridge in Salacgrīva has now been restored.

An additional monitoring plan has been developed for the next 4-5 days to observe the bridge structures under temperature fluctuations.

If changes are observed during monitoring, the designer of the temporary bridge may decide to suspend traffic for safety reasons, pending a more in-depth investigation.

LVC said earlier that the bridge over the Salaca is planned to be closed in the first week of May to replace the metal slabs. The steel deck of the existing carriageway regularly cracks due to the traffic load, and therefore new additional slabs have to be welded in, closing traffic during this work.
