The government has granted Riga Airport more than EUR 180,000 for the purchase of anti-missile equipment and unmanned aerial vehicles. This is according to a government decision on Tuesday, 15 April.
The government approved proposals prepared by the Ministry of Transport on the allocation of 2025 state budget funds for civil aviation security, rescue and civil-military cooperation. A total of EUR 672,418 will be allocated to Riga International Airport, Aviosabiedrība Liepāja Ltd and Ventspils Airport Ltd.
The Transport Ministry pointed out that safety and the implementation of safety measures is a national priority and the allocated funds will enable the implementation of air safety measures at civil aviation aerodromes of national importance. Riga Airport will receive € 445,652, Liepaja Airport – €206,766 and Ventspils airfield – € 20,000.
At Riga Airport, the 2025 budget will be used to purchase a portable UAV countermeasure system for EUR 30,000, UAVs (three units) for security and fire safety for EUR 105,000, three additional UAVs for patrolling the airport area for EUR 50,000, thermal imaging cameras for EUR 12,000, training of security personnel for EUR 37,600 and co-financing of the purchase of a fire truck for EUR 211,052.
The state budget funds earmarked for maintaining aviation security at Liepaja Airport in 2025 will be used for a number of measures, including the renovation of the fire service building for EUR 178,500, the purchase of fire extinguishing agents for EUR 7516, the purchase of military cargo handling equipment for EUR 10,750 and the partial financing of the purchase of an unmanned aerial vehicle to improve security for EUR 10,000 excluding value added tax.
For Ventspils Aerodrome, funding of €20 000 has been granted for the purchase and installation of a video surveillance system to ensure the improvement of the aerodrome’s security systems.
