For safety reasons, the Niedrāja boardwalk at Lake Kaņieris in the Ķemeri National Park has been temporarily closed, the Nature Conservation Authority (DAP) has announced, indicating that the renovation of the boardwalk has begun.
The boardwalk is located near Lapmežciems and extends into Lake Kaņieris, and as the DAP explained, one of the sections of the boardwalk is completely damaged, so it is no longer usable, so vacationers are invited to choose other nature trails or objects in the national park for the time being.
The Kaņieris Lake Reed Boardwalk was opened in 2013 and is a very popular tourist destination in the Ķemeri National Park, DAP said. Walking along the boardwalk, you can get to know Kaņieris Lake from an unusual perspective – getting close to the reed beds and even walking through them for a while. The reeds have been chosen as their home by most of the bird species found in the lake, so walking along the boardwalk completely silently and imperceptibly, if you were lucky, you could observe the birds at very close quarters.
The Nature Conservation Board encourages visitors to visit the nearby Kaņieris Bird Tower and the Kaņieris Castle Trail during the renovation work. Descriptions of these destinations can be found on the Nature Conservation Board website www.tiekamiesdaba.lv.
This website lists more than 700 nature tourism destinations throughout Latvia, including nature trails, sightseeing spots, boating routes, and bird watching spots.
