PM Kariņš: Latvian public must help medics and one another

The possibility of reducing the distribution of COVID-19 is in the hands of the public, Prime Minister Krišjānis Karins (“New Unity”) said on Latvian Television December 23.

Currently the healthcare system is congested, the hospitals are in a crisis situation, but we can change it together if we do not gather and contact other people, said Kariņš.

The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude and admiration to medics who continue to work in difficult circumstances and stated that “we must help them and help one another”.

Karins acknowledged that, unfortunately, some of the restrictions currently are not observed, and the government  will re-evaluate the situation next week and decide on the necessary steps.

“The public must be prepared – if the situation does not change, we will be forced to impose wider restrictions on movement,” the Prime Minister said.

He called on everyone to stop and think, because there is not much demand at the moment – stay at home and do not visit others.
