Modest rises recorded in Latvia’s retail sector

Calendar adjusted data (at constant prices) compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) and published December 28 show that, compared to November 2023, in November 2024 Latvia’s total retail trade turnover rose by 2.7 %. 

Turnover of retail trade in food products grew by 0.7%. Retail trade in non-food products (except for retail sale of automotive fuel) increased by 5.1 %, but turnover of retail sale of automotive fuel reduced by 0.6 %.

Compared to November 2023, the most significant turnover growth was registered in retail sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods (of 16.2 %), retail sale of hardware, instruments, construction materials and sanitary equipment (10.7 %) and retail sale of information and communication equipment in specialised stores (10.6 %).

A turnover drop was registered in retail sale in stalls or markets (15.2 %) and retail sale in non-specialised stores selling mainly non-food products (7.9 %).

Total retail trade turnover at current prices rose by 2.1 % (not taking into account the calendar influence).

Compared to October, the total turnover of retail trade in November 2024 increased by 1.1 %, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices. Turnover of retail trade in food products grew by 1.1%. Retail trade in non-food products (except for retail sale of automotive fuel) increased by 1.5 %, but turnover of retail sale of automotive fuel – reduced by 0.2 %.

As compared to the previous month, significant turnover increase was registered in retail sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods (of 4.8 %), retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (4.3 %) and retail sale in non-specialised stores selling mainly non-food products (3.1 %). The largest turnover drop was registered in retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (of 4.1 %).

Compared to October, in November 2024 total retail trade turnover at current prices (not taking into account seasonality) decreased by 1.6 %.
