The Ministry of Education and Science (IZM) has announced a competition for municipalities “Latvian Youth Capital 2026”, inviting applications until 13 June.
The competition is organised to promote youth work in municipalities, to strengthen cooperation between municipalities in the field of youth, to exchange good practices and experience, to continue the established traditions in youth work, as well as to raise the prestige of persons involved in youth work.
The Ministry informed that this year, significant amendments were made to the rules of the competition and more emphasis was placed on the work done by the municipality in the field of youth health, as well as the procedure for determining the winner was changed. The regulations can be found here .
The first round will be evaluated by a jury, while the second round will take place from 18 to 27 July, with a public vote on the public media portal LSM.lv, where everyone will have the opportunity to cast their vote.
The first Latvian Youth Capital competition was organised in 2016, and Jelgava city won the title. The 2024 title was held by Līvāni Municipality in 2024, and Liepāja, the Youth Capital of 2025, has won the title for the second time.
