The fourth contemporary dance festival “HOROS” will take place in Aizpute on June 6 and 7, organizers have confirmed.
The small city of Aizpute will become the venue for the contemporary dance festival HOROS, offering local residents and city guests an opportunity to get acquainted with the resident artists and an international performance programme.
Curator Sintija Siliņa says: “The overarching theme of the performance program is the renaissance of the body with the aim of renewing interest in the body. Just as the body was discredited in the Middle Ages under the influence of religious dogmas, in our time – in the era of digital transformation – we are faced with a similar challenge.”
HOROS is, first of all, a time and space for contemporary dance artists to develop their ideas. Therefore, those interested will also have the opportunity to get acquainted with HOROS residents and their new work ideas on the afternoon of June 6, at 5:00 p.m. at the club “Kurzeme”, where the artists will present what they have thought up and done during the residency process.
The HOROS 2025 resident circle consists of dance artist Laima Jaunzema, who will work in tandem with artist Maciej Sado (Poland), Agate Bankava, Sintija Siliņa, Ieva Gaurilčikaite-Sants (Latvia/Lithuania) and Dominika Markevičiute (Lithuania).
The residency will conclude on June 7 with a program of three international guest performances.
Tickets for the festival are available at the “Biļešu paradīze” box offices and online: https://ej.uz/HOROS_2025 .
On June 7, a special charter bus Riga-Aizpute-Riga will be organized, for which it is possible to purchase a combined festival and bus ticket. The bus will depart at 11:00 from the National Library of Latvia (which is also one of the municipal election stations – elections will be taking place the same day) and return to Riga at around 01:00 after the end of the performance program.
“Early birds” can purchase tickets at a more affordable price until May 6. As the event approaches, the price of tickets will increase.
