The first chick hatched on 15 April at the nest of white-tailed eagles Milda and Zorro/Zoris in Durbe, which the Latvian Fund for Nature (LDF) broadcasts via video, LDF confirmed.

Movement in the egg had been noticed by the forum participants on “Dabasdati.lv” already last week, but this morning there was already a hole in the shell.

The chick hatched out of the egg at 13:08, according to the forum’s observations.

This year, the first egg was laid on 9 March and the second on 13 March. Compared to last year, this year the first egg was laid almost two weeks earlier.

Milda has been with the new male Zorro/Zoris since April last year, as the previous male Hugo disappeared in mid-April. At the end of April, when Milda was away, a raven stole both eggs from the nest, so the previous season in Durbe was unsuccessful.
