Difficult future was ahead of the European Union in its relations with the outside world, therefore the it should increase its involvement in the international community, the bloc’s foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini has stated to EU diplomats.
Belgium-based news portal EurActiv reported that in a gathering of ambassadors of the EU in Brussels on Monday, September 3, the bloc’s top diplomat stated that currently the «very idea of multilateralism is increasingly challenged», Europe must work more closely with its international partners.
«Europe is not withdrawing from the world stage. On the contrary, it will be even more engaged in global affairs. We have to avoid that the world collapses completely,» noted Mogherini.
The Italian politician, who has been the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy in the European Commission, also indicated she would not seek reappointment for another term in office in 2019.
