The world’s largest trade fair, Expo 2025, opened its doors on Sunday 13 April in Osaka, Japan’s third largest city. Among the 160 country pavilions, 9 organisation pavilions and the world’s largest wooden structure is the Baltic Pavilion, where Latvia and Lithuania are presented under one roof.

The Baltic Pavilion is designed around the theme “We Are One” and highlights the interaction between nature, people and technology. The opening ceremony of the Baltic Pavilion was attended and the symbolic ribbon was cut by representatives and diplomats from both Latvia and Lithuania.

Pavilion visitors are taken on a sensory journey through the Baltic region, learning about Baltic nature, culture and traditions, as well as Latvian and Lithuanian solutions for a better future.

The “We Are One” concept invites people to realise that everyone is part of this planet, which is both a privilege and a responsibility to protect it for future generations. To draw attention to this, an installation – an interactive glass wall – is at the centre of the pavilion.

“The central element of the pavilion is the green Kizuna Wall, which means connectedness in Japanese. And we think that really that sense of togetherness is extremely important in the world of Japan, and we want to unite and connect nature, technology, people. And then we created this interactive platform where anyone can come and leave their fingerprint. In a few minutes it will disappear. Nature will prevail, but human is present and together with the help of technology we can develop and continue this dialogue that we have started,” said Artūrs Analts, designer of the Baltic Pavilion.

The Baltic Pavilion also hosts the “Nature Pharmacy”, which showcases around 300 Baltic meadow plants and explains their unique properties and uses for improving health and quality of life.

Everyone can also symbolically take part in planting a forest in the Baltics. Each digitally planted tree will actually be planted in Latvia and Lithuania in specially created forests in Tērvete and Joniškės.

Although the original plan was to bring all the Baltic countries under one roof, Estonia is not participating due to various circumstances. Latvia and Lithuania represent the whole Baltic region.
