On Friday, April 2, Latvia recorded 587 new cases of Covid-19.
The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 103,588.
Of 17,046 tests carried out in the last 24 hours, 3.4% were positive, almost the same as the 3.5% rate the day before. 4% is regarded as the threshold at which the virus is spreading in an uncontrolled manner.
The 14-day cumulative infection rate per 100,000 inhabitants fell from 372.1 Thursday to 370.3 Friday. Anything over 200 is classed as a “very high risk” pandemic situation.
Nine more deaths were also confirmed April 2. One victim was aged 40-49 years, one was aged 50-59 years, one was aged 70-79 and eight were aged 80-89 years.
A total of 1,922 people have now died in Latvia as a result of the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic according to official statistics.
