Cat cafe in Daugavpils thriving

A cat cafe in Daugavpils opened the door less than three months ago and already has regular guests and a lot of positive reviews, reported Latgale Regional Television on June 1.

“This was a crucial moment – now or never,” said Anita Ozoliņa, the owner of the cafe. At the moment, this is the only cat cafe in Latvia, and it was opened two days before the state of emergency was announced.

In less than two months, the cafe had become one of Daugavpils’ main tourist attractions. The owner calls her cafe a heartwarming, social business.

“You can’t earn a lot, that’s probably why there are few cafes like this in the world. Cats need to be loved and cared for. It’s a load – monthly veterinary visits, grooming, day-to-day care,” said Ozoliņa.

Before the cafe was opened, the cats lived on the streets or shelter. Visitors have to follow a number of rules when coming to the cafe. For example, families with small children are offered to use the room without cats in it.

“We have a small tour – for five minutes we let young children and their parents meet the cats. It’s usually enough,” said the owner.

At the moment, the shop is open only on weekends.
