The prosecutor’s office has charged an official of the National Armed Forces (NBS) with abuse of position, falsification of documents, and fraud in connection with food procurement, the prosecutor’s office said December 27.

Between March 15 2022 and March 1 2023, the accused person, ordering food products from a company, indicated to its representatives the food products to be actually delivered and their quantity, as well as gave instructions on which products and in what quantity were not to be actually delivered, but fictitiously included as delivered in the company’s delivery notes.

Moreover, the accused official and two individuals, against whom the criminal proceedings have been separated into a separate case file, forged documents granting the right to receive funds from the victim for food goods not actually delivered, i.e. no less than 169 company invoices, which the accused official submitted to the NBS accounting office for payment.

As a result of the criminal activities, the State suffered a loss of EUR 113 519.

The case has been referred to the Riga District Court. The date of the hearing has not been set at the moment.

Latvian Television has information that the two individuals against whom charges of falsification of documents have been brought and against whom the criminal proceedings have been separated into a separate case file are Ņina Siliņa, a member of the Board of “Lanekss” Ltd, and Edgars Siliņš.

Lanekss was one of the companies included in the scandalous    food procurement contrac  t which resulted in  several officials being reprimanded  . The name of the company also appeared in several stories where, after the war in Ukraine began, public entities including the  National Armed Forces   and  Latvian Television   got Russian-made products delivered.
