892 new COVID-19 cases confirmed in Latvia

Latvia on December 18 recorded 892 confirmed cases of COVID-19, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC), the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic reaching 29,427 on Friday.

The highest daily total stands at 1,040 cases recorded 24 hours earlier.

Of 9,748 tests carried out in the previous 24 hours, 9.2% were positive, down on the 10.1% figure on Thursday.

Fifteen more deaths were confirmed. Two victims were aged 60-70 years, three were aged 70-80, nine were aged 80-90, and one was aged 90-95.

So far 409 people have died from the coronavirus in Latvia since the start of the pandemic.

According to the National Health Service (NVD), 871 patients are currently being treated for the symptoms of coronavirus in Latvian hospitals. Of that number 825 have moderate symptoms, while 46 have serious symptoms.

All three Baltic states continue to battle the virus. On December 18,  Estonia reported 654 new cases of coronavirus and four deaths, while       Lithuania remains the hardest-hit   with 3,181 new cases and 39 deaths confirmed Friday.
