On Tuesday, April 6, Latvia recorded 309 new cases of Covid-19, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).
The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 104,533.
Only 4,987 tests were carried out in the past 24 hours. Of that number 6.2% of tests were positive, up on the 3.8% figure the day before. 4% is regarded as the threshold at which the virus is spreading in an uncontrolled manner.
Meanwhile the 14-day cumulative infection rate per 100,000 inhabitants fell slightly from 348 Monday to 337.5 Tuesday. Anything over 200 is classed as a “very high risk” pandemic situation under the government’s four-stage “traffic light” system.
Sadly, three more deaths were confirmed April 5. One victim was aged aged 50-59 years, and two were aged 60-69.
A total of 1,937 people have now died in Latvia as a result of the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic according to official statistics .
On April 6 in Estonia 899 new cases of Covid-19 were recorded and in Lithuania the figure was 686 new cases.
