306 new Covid cases Saturday in Latvia

On Saturday, May 30, Latvia recorded 306 new cases of Covid-19 infection, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 132,918.  

Of 10,929 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 2.8 % were positive, up very slightly on the 2.4% rate of Thursday, but consistent with the roughly 3% level throughout the past week.

Also continuing the encouraging trend of the last week, the 14-day cumulative infection rate per 100,000 inhabitants fell yet again, from 291 Friday to 278 Saturday.

Unfortunately, 11 more deaths were also confirmed Saturday, taking the total death toll since the start of the pandemic to 2,370.

Meanwhile in  Estonia 127 new cases of coronavirus were recorded May 29, and in  Lithuania 522 cases were logged.

Use of nose and mouth coverings is compulsory in all public places indoors, including workplaces. Physical distancing and frequent hand washing and sanitary cleaning habits are encouraged.

There is a Latvian language hotline  8989  which allows people to both register for vaccination and receive answers to questions about the process of vaccination.

All arrivals to the country (including returnees) need to fill in an electronic declaration prior to coming to Latvia. It is available at the website  covidpass.lv  .
