233 new cases of Covid-19 on Sunday in Latvia

On Sunday, May 23, Latvia recorded 233 new cases of Covid-19 infection, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 130,945.

Of 4,742 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 4.9% were positive, up on the 3.1% rate of Saturday and Friday.  A higher percentage of positive tests is typical for Sundays as a lower number of tests is carried out.

The 14-day cumulative infection rate per 100,000 inhabitants fell significantly again from 386.9 Saturday to 366 Sunday. Nevertheless, it is still well above the 200 threshold classed as a “very high risk” pandemic situation under the government’s four-stage “traffic light” system.
