180 cases of Covid-19 in Latvia on Sunday

On Sunday, May 30, Latvia recorded 180 new cases of Covid-19 infection, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 133,098.  

Of 4,377 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 4.1% were positive, up on the 2.8% rate of Saturday. A higher proportion of positive tests is typical to Sundays as fewer tests are carried out. 

Also continuing the encouraging trend of the last week, the 14-day cumulative infection rate per 100,000 inhabitants fell yet again, from 278 Saturday to 268.4 Sunday.

Fortunately no records of deaths have been registered Sunday, the death toll since the start of the pandemic remaining at 2,370.

Meanwhile in  Estonia 62 new cases of coronavirus were recorded May 30, and in  Lithuania 285 cases were logged.

Use of nose and mouth coverings is compulsory in all public places indoors, including workplaces. Physical distancing and frequent hand washing and sanitary cleaning habits are encouraged.

There is a Latvian language hotline  8989  which allows people to both register for vaccination and receive answers to questions about the process of vaccination.

All arrivals to the country (including returnees) need to fill in an electronic declaration prior to coming to Latvia. It is available at the website  covidpass.lv  .
