1,695 new Covid-19 cases Friday in Latvia

According to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) on Friday, October 8, Latvia recorded 1,695 daily cases of Covid-19 infection.

Of Friday’s positive cases, 1,328 were unvaccinated persons, or persons not fully vaccinated, and 367 were fully vaccinated. The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 168,248.

Of 18,394 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 9.2% were positive.

The 14-day cumulative infection rate per 100,000 inhabitants continued to increase from 732.1 Thursday to 784.1 Friday, which is the highest figure since the start of the pandemic.

Sadly, there was also confirmation of 4 more Covid-related deaths. All of the deceased were aged over 50 years. The death toll since the start of the pandemic now stands at 2,787.

With the infection wave continuing to strengthen, the level of hospitalizations continues to be a focus of attention as hospitals come under intense pressure. According to the latest available figures there are 703 people being treated for Covid-19 symptoms in Latvian hospitals, of which number 72 are displaying serious symptoms.

The epidemiological situation in all three Baltic states continues to be among the worst in Europe. In Estonia  nearly 1,000 new cases   were recorded and Lithuania recorded    more than 2,400 cases        during the last 24 hours.
